Existing as a wing of the local Ramakrishna Ashrama since 1929, the centre was handed over to Sri Sarada Math in June 1968 and conducted the following activities during 2017-18 : 

Nivedita Vidyapeeth


Daily worship and observance of religious and cultural functions.

Cultural activities: Weekly religious classes for devotees and students were held on Sundays, while yearly Youth Camps were conducted in April – May under the auspices of Nivedita Youth Association for Self Awareness and Service, a project undertaken by the centre (No. of participants : 40).

Balika Gurukulam or the hostel attached to the institution had 95 boarders, of whom 17 girls were of scheduled castes and 38 destitute girls.

High School and Higher Secondary Unit (Class XI & XII) for girls in three batches : Science, Commerce and Humanity streams counted 797 and 355 students respectively. Every year the results of both the sections were excellent.

Bharathi Vidyalayam, the open school for classes XI and XII : 18 students appeared at the Higher Secondary School Examination. 16 of them passed with good marks.

The School Library had 13,000 books in March 2018, besides a number of periodicals.

Regular classes  and occasional lectures in and outside the centre continued as before.

Other welfare activities : Educational help was given to 38 poor students involving an expenditure of Rs. 7,55,633/-, while Narayan Seva—feeding of the people was done as before.

tailoring class was conducted for the village women (average attendance : 50).

Financial help was given to poor and needy people of Puranattukara locality. Clothes, medicine, foodstuff etc. were given to poor people worth Rs. 1,21,540/-. while clothes, food materials and pecuniary help was given on special occasions, like Onam, Vishu and the birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother and Swami Vivekananda. 10 kg. of rice, clothes and medicines were supplied every month to 118 needy persons. This year also, 35 families were given Onam kits each by way of 10 kg. of rice,1 kg. coconut oil, 1 kg. sambar dal, chilly powder etc.
