A disciple of Swami Shankarananda, she joined the Order at the Sister Nivedita Girls’ School in 1952. She was initiated into Brahmacharya in 1956 by Swami Shankarananda in the old shrine of Belur Math and was invested with Sannyasa by Pravrajika Bharatiprana in 1960. Appointed Assistant Secretary of Nivedita School from 1956, she served also as headmistress from 1968 to 1970 when she was appointed Secretary of the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, New Delhi which office she held from 1970 to 1998. She was appointed a trustee of Sri Sarada Math and a member of the Governing Body of the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission from 1973. She was also the Editor of Samvit, the English journal of Sri Sarada Math from the beginning, i.e. 1980.
Her personality, kindness and warmth touched all who came to her. A prolific writer she did extensive research mainly on Sister Nivedita. She was the first biographer of Sister Nivedita in English for which she received a National Award. She also compiled the complete works of Sister Nivedita (published in 1967). Other titles are also to her credit. Very methodical, a perfectionist, she participated in almost all the functions of the Math, such as Swamiji’s birth centenary, Sister Nivedita’s birth centenary, the centenary celebration of Sister Nivedita School, etc. Along with Rev. Muktipranaji she visited Sri Lanka in 1968, where they had been invited to participate in Sister Nivedita’s birth centenary functions. If you want peace of mind, do not find fault with others. Rather learn to see your own faults. Make the whole world your own. No one is a stranger, my child; this is your own.
